Interested in steeking but nervous about taking scissors to your knitting? Stranded colourwork expert Tanis Gray will guide you through four secure and stress-free steeking methods using swatches, so you’ll feel confident before tackling that sweater pattern you’ve been eyeing! You’ll learn the crochet method (no crochet experience needed), the backstitch method, the needle felting method, and the sewing machine method. Some experience with colourwork and knitting in the round is recommended.
FOR THIS CLASS YOU WILL NEED:
• Swatches in Pebble Island or equivalent worsted weight yarn - see homework
• 4mm/US 6 and 5mm/US 8 needles
• 3.75mm/US 5/Size F Crochet Hook
• 20 metres of 4ply/ fingering weight wool (100% wool – no superwash)
• Sharp scissors
• 16 Removable stitch markers
• Optional: needle felting tool and mat
• Optional: sewing machine set up with brightly coloured thread
HOMEWORK:
2-4 colourwork swatches in the round depending on how many steeking techniques you wish to try. An optional chart for the swatches will be emailed to you upon registration for this class - or you may choose to make swatches in a single colour in the round. Please do not make flat swatches.
